My name is Errol Dejager. I am the principal of Dejager Design Inc, a full service interior design firm based in Newport Beach, California. My collective 30+ years of experience with world-renowned architects and builders has awarded me with unique opportunities to develop and build a showcase of works as eclectic as they are elegant.
I have always been passionate about designing and building homes, and it has become one of my greatest pleasures to express this love in my work.
Early on I learned one of the key hurdles in communicating design concepts is the inability of two-dimensional renderings to properly communicate all of the nuances and subtleties of complex design concepts. Many who have been through the process of developing a custom home know the potential anxiety associated with committing to a decision or budget without complete sense of what is going to be delivered. Wanting so much to love the home when it is finished, decisions at the outset sometimes fall into arena of ‘fear’ as there is a desire to avoid making a wrong choice.
The challenge with the typical process is often by the time the house is framed, or interiors are installed, making changes becomes costly both in time and money. Too often one can be left with the uncomfortable decision…to compromise or carry the added cost to make the change.
Thanks to new technologies and my team of visual artists, we have redefined the entire experience! We have moved the design process into virtual reality. With the ability to build and decorate your home right down to the finest detail in a full-scale computer model is a paradigm shift. The result and experience is trans formative.
It has been such a fun and exciting process allowing my clients to fully immerse themselves in their new homes before the foundation is even poured. Photorealistic 3D renderings uploaded to an Oculus give us the ability to move through the house with full 360-degree views. It has truly changed the game!
Today, my clients confidently commit to decisions and budgets knowing exactly what to expect when the work is complete. By including the 3D experience as a foundational part of the design process, we not only establish trust, but have the time and opportunity to explore options before the costly ‘real time’ factor ever comes into play. When we get to the point of saying, “WOW!
This is amazing, I love it!” we are able to confidently proceed knowing that our goals and vision are aligned. More importantly, as we commit to decisions and budgets, there is an authentic understanding of expectations for all of us.
Building a home is a complex and rewarding process requiring unwavering commitment, realistic expectations, knowledge and patience.
In addition, there is a direct correlation between the quality of the experience, and the experience of the team. The better the quality of the design-build team, the better the documentation and preparation will be. When well prepared, budgets and schedules can be established and maintained; construction can proceed without the delays typically caused by lack of information, and the experience for all remains one of excitement and eager anticipation.
I so appreciate the importance of being prepared, and having the entire team aligned with a single vision. This new design approach has moved so much of design-build experience from ‘fear to love’. Together, we are now ready to enjoy the process as it unfolds rather than making reactionary choices along the way.
Interior spaces are the core of my passion; however, my vision is holistic, radiating through all disciplines of the project. My background in architecture, landscape design and construction has given me a unique understanding of the craft, allowing me to effectively build homes from the ground up.
This ability to work with all aspects of construction sets me apart from my contemporaries and well serves my discerning clientèle. Like them, I prefer to be personally engaged in every detail of a project from concept to completion. No matter how small the detail, it plays an important role in the bigger picture. There is nothing more rewarding than visiting a completed project and seeing my clients not only revel in their new home, but also marvel at the smallest details carefully considered sometimes completely unbeknownst to them.
Aside from being open to new ideas, passion is my defining style and I engage with each project as an individually inspired work, unique to each client. By refusing to conform to a defined traditional or contemporary aesthetic, I enjoy the freedom of expression that allows the personality of each client to fully express itself.
My primary purpose is to curate and guide the design process so that once complete, the interior is tastefully coordinated, comfortable, and functional and my clients are left with a home representative of their vision and lifestyle.
